When You’re a Caregiver, There Will Likely Be Conflicts From Time to Time
by Anonymous

Even if you’re caregiving for someone you love and have gotten along well with over the years, you’ll need to get ready for potential blowups with them every now and then.
My mother had been very good to me, my wife and children over the years, and we generally got along well, except for a few rare occasions when we got angry with each other.
After she became bedridden and I became her caregiver, she became angry with me one day because she was having problems hearing the television in her and my dad’s bedroom.
They slept in different beds in the same room since my mom needed a hospital bed, and she watched TV almost 24/7. She usually watched news shows, which my dad began to dislike because the same news would be repeated all day and night.
Because she couldn’t hear her shows, she got upset and accused my dad and I of turning the volume down so that we wouldn’t have to listen to them.
We told her that the TV was working fine and the volume was up as loud as we could get it.
She still couldn’t hear it and started to claim that it was not working and told me to go out and buy a new one.
I told her that it was working fine.
She started yelling and saying that she would go out and buy a new one herself.
This was impossible, however, since she was no longer able to drive and couldn’t even get out of bed to walk to the kitchen or bathroom. Still, she kept insisting that she would go out and buy a new one.
Finally, I told her I would go to the store and buy another one. However, a neighbor then told me that I could buy external TV speakers to put closer to her, so I decided to try that.
At the same time, I had been planning to buy some hearing aids for my dad. When I checked on Amazon, I found some low-cost hearing aids that were about 15-20 dollars for two, and I purchased them. Unlike the hearing aids that cost thousands of dollars, they were a very inexpensive alternative, so I went ahead and got some for both my dad and mom.
When I received them in the mail , I put some in her ears, and she immediately began smiling and laughing as she began to hear the TV immediately.
We all got a big laugh out of this incident.
I believe she’d lain on her ears for so long, she wasn’t able to hear well.
Once I put the hearing aids in, she realized that she had
been upset for days for nothing.
